Hearty Low-FODMAP Cheeseburger Pie; Gluten-free

Print Friendly Version

What could be better than a cheeseburger?  How about low-FODMAP Cheeseburger Pie?

This low-FODMAP recipe is an American twist on low-FODMAP Shepherd’s Pie and low-FODMAP Cottage Pie.  My version contains biscuit dough instead of potatoes, and no vegetables.  However, I love to serve this with a low-FODMAP Tossed Salad or low-FODMAP glazed carrots.

You may wish to enjoy this low-FODMAP Cheeseburger Pie with my low-FODMAP Ketchup, or my low-FODMAP Barbecue Sauce, but it has plenty of flavor on its own.

Low-FODMAP Cheeseburger Pie is a perfect weeknight meal for the whole family.  It freezes well and can be prepared in advance.  Plus this low-FODMAP meal is super-filling, hearty and nutritious.

  1. It's yummy!

I have made this many times and it is a family favorite. I use rice milk and don’t use the cayenne. My son likes his with pickles, tomatoes, and ketchup on it. My husband eats this like it’s going out of style. Get quality beef. We buy ours from a local farmer and that makes all the difference.

    1. Amy!
      This is phenomenal to hear!!
      It literally gave us goosebumps.
This type of feedback is an inspiration for us every day. ??

    1. Hi there,
If you want to try this Cheeseburger Pie without beef, then Soy Tempeh is low-FODMAP in serving sizes of 100 g. Look for brands without added onion, garlic or high-FODMAP additives. We cannot vouch for whether it would taste the same, as we have not tried this option, so please let us know if you do!

    1. Hi Hanya!
We think this should work, but without the ingredients of the brand you are using we can’t say absolutely for sure. Please check to confirm that your brand is not only gluten-free, but is also low-FODMAP too!
We also have a link for a copycat gluten-free Bisquick recipe in our low-FODMAP Recipe swap blog, so that may be useful for another option.
Let us know how it turned out!!
      Have a great day 🙂

  2. We are new to low FODMAP and this was excellent!

My son was recently put on a low FODMAP diet by his GI so we are very new. Your website has been a God-send. Tried this tonight with ground venison and without cayenne because he is sensitive to heat and he loved it. So did I! It’s a winner.

  4. How to reheat leftovers

I made this with extra lean ground turkey. It was too much for my 9″ pie pan, but it was still really good. What is the best way to reheat leftovers? Thanks

    1. Hi Jayne!
Not sure why your pan didn’t fit. Ours has plenty of extra space…
You can reheat leftovers in the microwave, start with 1 minute and adjust as necessary. If you prefer to use the oven, then we suggest 325F for 10-15 minutes depending on the size of your piece. Good luck!

  5. Can this be frozen? Would you banke it first then freeze, or assemble and freeze the pie even with the prepared biscuit dough on top? I would love a freezer ready meal like this.

    1. Hi there!
Thanks for the question. We have not frozen it before, but it should work. We suggest completing the recipe, including baking, allow it to cool, then wrapping it well before freezing. Good luck!
